Founded in 1946 by Sir Thomas Beecham, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was given the title 'Royal' by the Queen in 1966, confirming its irreplaceable position in the British music world. Throughout its history, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has attracted and collaborated with some of the most inspirational artists, including Rudolf Kempe, Antal DorĂ¡ti, Walter Weller, AndrĂ© Previn, Vladimir Ashkenazy, and many others. Vladimir Ashkenazy,Yuri Temirkanov and Daniele Gatti have all been Principal Conductors of the Orchestra, and in August 2021,Vasily Petrenko became the new Music Director. This is a landmark appointment in the history of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Vasily Petrenko's first two seasons with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra have been well received by audiences and critics alike.
